How Low CAN they go...
Most of us watch movies such as "Office Space" and the like and we say, "no job is really like that". To me... I truly believed that all employers were somewhat simialar. I mean of course there's variation but ,generally speaking, with labor laws and unions and so forth its not like the Dark Ages or anything... or is it! As you may or may not know I work for Securitas U.S.A. a security guard company. Now, before I go any further, I want to say my actual job is simplicity in itself. I literally get paid to do absolutely nothing. I read, do crossword puzzles, study for my Classes, and generally just try to stay awake. so the actual "work" isn't my problem...no my problem is My employer!
there is no doubt in my mind that Securitas has a big book or binder titled "how to screw over your employees" and its probably a multi-volume set! When I 1st left my old job to come to Securitas, I stated that I need to make no less than $9/hour. Now Securitas was advertiseing for as much as 10 an hour so I didn't think this particularly greedy on my part. I was told by the people that hired me that "Sure no problem.. we have plenty of positions that make that and some that make more" ok... so to make a long blog short... I get hired, and BANG... no such jobs exist... I end up making 7 an hr. screw over #1
fine I adapt and move on. then Securitas as a problem...they can't keep anybody employed at my post(cause the pay sucks) so its a revolving door(like 150% turnover rate at 1 damn post) that the upper-ups don't feel the need to do anything about, so the bottom line... I end up having to work for 4 months without any off days and a few 12 hr shifts thrown in just to make me really unhappy. screw over #2
Securitas employees do not get off for holidays. Unless your off days happen to fall on it. you can't even request off for vacation on holidays. screw over #3
now As I approaced my 1 year anniversary of being employed by Securitas I asked about my yearly raise...thinking that I would recieve one to cover cost-of-living increase, inflation, and Oh my fucking GAWD the rising cost of Gas! Guess what... No raise. instead you have to fill out 3 "study guides" and read 3 books and then you get to take 3 tests and then if you pass...MAYBE... you get your piddly ass lil raise!!! screw over #4
now after my 1 year anniversary I became eligible for vacation. one would think this would be cause for celebration right...WRONG! I got an extra check in with my usual(pathetic) amount that said, "Vacation check". and I thought, "mmm this is odd". Now in all my previous work expeirence when you put in for vacation it gets added to your check so that you dont' come up short and not be able to pay bills and so forth... also... usually you would get 2 weeks of vacation at most Hourly type jobs. well Securitas doesn't do that. when you take a vacation day... you just don't get paid. that kinda defeats the purpose of "PAID vacation" in my book. in addition I only got Paid for 36 hrs. 36 hours is only 4 and a half work days. what the fuck??? 4 and a half. if they'd made it an even 40 hrs... at least I'd understand...but 36 hrs!!! Screw over #5
